I recently had the chance to try out the new Fabric Data Agent, which is currently in preview as part of the Microsoft Fabric platform. It’s still early days, but I can already see some solid potential for making data exploration and integration more efficient—especially for teams looking to get actionable insights faster.

🔗 Fabric Data Agent Overview
Why I Gave It a Try
As someone who works closely with data, AI, and Microsoft’s ecosystem, I’m always looking for new tools that can streamline how we connect and analyze information. Fabric Data Agent promises to make it easier to work with data from various sources without heavy lifting—something worth exploring.
What I Learned
Here are a couple of key things to know before diving in:
- You’ll need an F2 capacity or higher.
The Data Agent won’t run on the free tier, so make sure you’re set up with at least an F2 capacity in Microsoft Fabric. - Capacity region matters.
The capacity has to be in the same region as your trial workspace. For example, in my case, our trial was in North Central US, so I had to create the capacity in the same region for it to work properly.
These might sound like small details, but they can save you time during setup.
Final Thoughts
While I’ve only just started exploring what the Data Agent can do, it’s encouraging to see Microsoft investing in tools that help reduce friction in working with data. I’m excited to follow its development and see how it evolves as it moves beyond preview.
If you’re already working in Microsoft Fabric or exploring AI-powered data solutions, it’s worth taking a look.
